NUMERICAL MODELING

Numerical modeling in Hydraulics has been advanced a lot in the past few years and is now established as a powerful tool. HM was involved in the developing and has carried out several numerical modeling studies, which addressed hydrodynamic issues and littorals processes. Beyond essentially hydrodynamic studies, other environmental studies can be achieved, as for example, water quality, oil spills and disposal of contaminated dredging material.

Numerical modeling can predict and study the hydrodynamics (tides, currents and waves), sediment transport processes (sand and mud), coastline evolution, dredging disposal dispersion and other environmental aspects for estuarine and coastal areas.

Furthermore, through numerical modeling, it is possible to work in design/optimizations of harbor and coastal projects, as layout and location studies of piers, breakwaters, jetties and groins.
